Fine feathers make fine birds

20180916_163406Earlier this afternoon
my nephew and I drove
to the mall of Cyprus
but as we were leaving
the house there were
two ravens eating off
the skin of the street
Driving closer I saw
the two ravens were
eating from what
remained of a cat,
road kill, just
a strip of fur
It made my stomach turn
Birds eating a cat
It felt like I was watching
the tail of evolution
begin to eat itself
It made my mind turn.

Later back home I
helped my nephew revise
his homework, studying the
verb to be, how it is
conjugated, and how to spell
My favourite subject
is English for his dictation
next week. I imagined
hummingbirds
and how their plumage
seems bejeweled,
background
and foreground
covered in that
plumage.
