Alliteration in poetry

Creative writing coaches defy alliteration but even alliteration has its place, if it occurs organically, from a given situation:

I tossed blackcurrants to the blackbird.

Readers may rest assured that the blackbird I am referring to here is the same one that still lives in my garden, after two weeks, and which I am in love with.
