This morning I woke up to the story of the penguin who swam five thousand miles, a trip he does annually, in order to reach a man who rescued him to thank him again. I do not however believe the penguin acted in a way that personifies him or makes him humanlike. I generally try to dismiss such inert versions of the truth from my head; it suffers enough. On the contrary, it proves that even in nature eternal gratitude is essential to life on earth existing and perpetuating itself. When we stop anthropormophizing or worst, infantalising animals, will we understand their true power, and of course in turn of our own: the spirit animal within us.
