If we put a supermassive CLOSED sign on the year 2016 everyone would cheer us on.

The memory of reading To Kill A Mockingbird in college is as vivid as it was to read Toni Morrison or Emily Dickinson: these women refused to create lifelike works of art which imitate or distil reality, but created alternate worlds with their fiction and poetry. In such works of art does a nation’s hope remain crystallised, like a butterfly in amber.
